How We Use Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own, which is not the same as being cookie-free: every page carries Google's ads, and Google sets cookies through them. Here is everything that is stored, who stores it, and how to be rid of it.

What this site keeps on your device

Local storage rather than cookies, and the difference that matters is not the name: local storage is never sent with a request. It sits in your browser, and the only thing that reads it is this site's own code, running in the same browser.

Four things go in it:

• the text in the editor, so that closing a tab by accident does not lose your work;
• the undo and redo history for that text;
• the keyboard layout you picked, so the page opens on it next time;
• your font size.

None of it identifies you and none of it leaves the machine. Clearing site data for branah.com removes all of it, and every page here still works without it.

Cookies from the ads

Every page carries advertising from Google AdSense, and that is where the cookies come from. Google sets some of them on branah.com itself and others on its own domains, and uses them to choose which ads to show, to limit how often you see the same one, and to detect fraud. Google publishes the list and what each one is for, and that page is the authority on it rather than this one.

What Google does with the data is set out in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Ad personalisation can be turned off, for your Google account or for this browser, at My Ad Center. Ads still appear afterwards; they stop being picked out of a profile.

What this site does not do

There is no analytics of any kind here — no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel, no third-party script at all beyond the ads. There is nothing to sign in to and no account to create. The pages are static files served from a CDN, and that CDN is not configured to keep access logs.

Two pages fetch a library from a public CDN instead of from here: Image to Text and PDF to Text load their OCR and PDF code from jsdelivr. The file you open is read and processed inside your browser either way — it is not uploaded.

When something does leave your browser

Only when you press something, and it is worth knowing which. Save Text sends the contents of the text box to branah's own server, which hands it straight back as a file to download. The dictionary lookups on the Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean pages send the characters being looked up. The share links put your text into a link to another service and hand you over to it.

Everything else — every keyboard, every converter — runs inside your browser and sends nothing. The privacy policy sets all of this out in more detail.
