Privacy Policy

What you type stays in your browser unless you press something that sends it. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking here; the advertising on every page is Google's, and that is where the cookies come from.

What this site is

Branah is a set of static pages. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to, and there is no database of users: the keyboards and the converters are JavaScript, and they run inside your browser rather than on a server.

What stays in your browser

The text you type, its undo and redo history, the keyboard layout you chose and your font size are kept in your browser's local storage. Nothing in that list is sent anywhere, and clearing site data for branah.com removes all of it. How We Use Cookies covers it in more detail.

What leaves your browser, and when

Three things, and each of them is something you have to press:

• Save Text posts the contents of the text box to branah's own server, which sends it straight back as a file for you to download. That round trip is what the button is for — it is how the text arrives as a file.
• Dictionary lookups on the Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean pages send the characters being looked up, as their Unicode code point numbers, and get back a reading or a definition. That is the Convert button on those converters and the Translate button under those keyboards.
• The share links above the keyboard — email, X, Google search, Google Translate — put your text into a link to that service and hand you over to it. Nothing is sent until you click one, and what happens afterwards is between you and them.

Everything else converts where you typed it. The transliterators, the encoders, the braille translator and the image and PDF readers all run in your browser, and a file you open on Image to Text or PDF to Text is never uploaded.

Advertising

Every page carries advertising from Google AdSense, and Google sets cookies through it, both on branah.com and on its own domains. What Google collects and what it does with it is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and ad personalisation can be switched off at My Ad Center.

Branah does not see that data, does not sell anything to anyone, and runs no analytics of its own.

Logs

The pages themselves are served from a CDN that is not configured to keep access logs. The two buttons above reach an API running as functions on AWS Lambda, behind a gateway. Access logging on that gateway is switched off, and the functions record only that a request happened — when, how long it took, how much memory it used — and not what was in it. Neither the CDN nor the gateway is set up to keep your IP address.

Those invocation records are deleted after a day. There is no text and no address in them in any case: one line to say a request started, one to say it finished, and one giving its duration.
